Great Bluray player. I didn’t buy this player to watch downloaded movies at 480 or 720, so a players ability to download VHS/DVD quality movies from various services is not what I want from a Bluray player. I like to watch my movies in HI DEF (1080i/1080p) otherwise I can use my $40 DVD player and be happy. Connect this bluray player to a HI DEF TV, good receiver, and decent 5.1 speakers and you won’t care about watching movies at 480 and 720. Each time I demo my setup with the first car chase and shootout in the movie Wanted, the response is always the same – “I’ve seen the movie several times and I’ve never seen and heard all that stuff (especially Angelina Jolie’s sigh as she avoids being hit by a truck)”. If you want a quality Bluray player and don’t want to spend and arm and a leg, this is Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player. I have 400 standard DVD movies and 60 Bluray movies. I have the Panasonic BD35 (predecessor to BD 60) and the BD60. I’ve never had a disk that wouldn’t play, or hangs up, or any of the things some of the other reviewers claim. Most Bluray players play Bluray movies OK. The sounds (they can decode) and the upscaling of regular DVD’s is where you find significant differences in the brands. This is probably the best player for the money. A $1000 player will use better chips and will allow you to tweak settings a little more but for the most part the biggest visual improvements are only when you’re playing regular DVD’s. If you have a high end plasma or LCD TV (top of the line Sony, Samsung – i.e. $3000 – $5000 TV) you may see a difference. If not, you probably won’t see the difference. Most of us just want a machine that has a great picture and runs well right out of the box. This is it. This is a no brainer. Check the audiophile and cinemaphile sites and you will find the Pannys are recommended as the entry level Bluray machines to buy.
